28 Φεβ 2022 · In this article, I address common misconceptions about prediction and provide a simple definition that addresses existing barriers to adoption. I then discuss and illustrate some of the many benefits that prediction can bring when used as a complement to traditional empirical methods.
Just because a sociologist forms an educated prediction of a study’s outcome doesn’t mean data contradicting the hypothesis aren’t welcome. Sociologists analyze general patterns in response to a study, but they are equally interested in exceptions to patterns.
