  1. The ear is divided into three intercon-necting sections: external, middle and inner ears (Fig 1). While the external and middle ears are mainly concerned with the trans-mission of sound, the inner ear contains the cochlea – often called the organ of hearing – and also houses the body’s organ of balance.
