The name for the Jellyfish comes from the fact that they have a jelly like elastic in the middle that is called Mesoglea. This is between the outer layer which is the Epidermis and the inner layer which is the Gastrodermis.

Jellyfish have an ectoderm (outside skin layer) and endoderm (inside skin layer), but no mesoderm to hold their organs like we do. Instead, inside is the very spinelessness of the jellyfish, a gelatinous stuffing called mesoglea.
