An input-output rule is a rule that takes an allowable input and uses it to determine an output. For example, the following diagram represents the rule that takes any number as an input, then adds 1, multiplies by 4, and gives the resulting number as an output.
A function is a rule which maps a number to another unique number. In other words, if we start off with an input, and we apply the function, we get an output. For example, we might have a function that added 3 to any number. So if we apply this function to the number 2, we get the number 5.
In the context of functions, output refers to the result produced by a function after applying an input value. It is the dependent variable that is determined by the function's rule when a specific input is provided, illustrating the relationship between the input and output within the function's framework.

1 Φεβ 2024 · To graph a function, I begin by determining the domain and range, which are the set of all possible inputs (x-values) and outputs (y-values) respectively. With this foundation, I plot points on the coordinate plane where each point represents an $(x, y)$ pair that satisfies the function’s equation.
Definition. In mathematics, output refers to the result or value that comes from applying a function to an input. When a function takes an input, it processes that value through a specific rule or operation and produces an output.
