Gmail does allow you to add your account to Outlook without setting up two-factor authentication and using an app password, but you must turn on a setting that allows "less secure apps" to connect to your account.
12 Σεπ 2017 · So I set up the gmail (IMAP) and outlook (Exchange) mail accounts in Outlook 2016, and connected the gmail account in the OWA online app. On the desktop the gmail account now appears twice, once as an IMAP account and once as part of the outlook.com Exchange account.
