21 Δεκ 2020 · Lockheed bills the P-3 as the "World Standard in Maritime Patrol Aircraft" and for good reason - nearly twenty military operators keep it in active inventory. The P-3 has seen action since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 and throughout the latter half of the Vietnam War (1955-1975).
The AGM-84 Harpoon was originally a purely anti-ship weapon and that's what the P-3 used it for. Later versions like the Harpoon SLAM added cruise missile-like capabilities. The P-3 provides surveillance, the AC-130 provides an airborne 105mm howitzer.
