7 Νοε 2023 · Proposition 3 added language to the Texas Constitution to prohibit the state legislature from imposing a tax based on the wealth or net worth of an individual or family. As of 2023, no state had adopted a wealth tax. In 2019, Texans approved Proposition 4 to prohibit the state legislature from adopting a state income tax.

Texas imposes a 6.25 percent state sales and use tax on all retail sales, leases and rentals of most goods, as well as taxable services. Local taxing jurisdictions (cities, counties, special purpose districts and transit authorities) can also impose up to 2 percent sales and use tax for a maximum combined rate of 8.25 percent.
