The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang is an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War II and the Korean War, among other conflicts. The Mustang was designed in 1940 by a team headed by James H. Kindelberger of North American Aviation (NAA) in response to a requirement of the British Purchasing Commission.

22 Οκτ 2020 · According to a release by Pursuit Aviation, the record was set Sept. 2, 2017, in a modified P-51D Mustang known as Voodoo. Voodoo averaged 531.53 miles per hour on four passes, the fastest of them at 554.69 miles per hour, taking the top honor for the C-1e classification.
10 Οκτ 2017 · The fastest lap actually reached a speed of 554.69 MPH, but Hinton’s average speed of 531.27 mph over four passes on the 3km course, located at Clark’s Ranch in a remote part of Central Idaho, officially made him and Voodoo the fastest piston engine propeller driven airplane in the world, ever.
