Continuing Education Period: Your current 5-year Act 48 compliance period. If your period is longer than 5 years, a legislative extension may have been applied. More information on the details of specific extensions can be found on our FAQ page. Required Hours: A total of 180 hours is always required for Act 48.
Educators can maintain active status by meeting continuing education requirements or may request voluntary inactive status from PDE's Bureau of School Leadership and Teacher Quality via TIMS to suspend the requirements of Act 48.
Act 48 of 1999 requires educators holding Pennsylvania Instructional I and II, Educational Specialist I and II, Supervisory, Vocational Instructional I and II and Vocational Supervisory certificates to complete continuing education requirements every five years.
