Padre Dámaso Verdolagas is a fictional character in the novel Noli Me Tángere. The novel was written by José Rizal, one of the leaders of the Propaganda Movement in the Philippines.

26 Απρ 2024 · Padre Dámaso is now spelled as Padre Damaso, other books use the conventional Pari Damaso (pari being the Filipino word for father-priest, even though padre is a Filipino word too). In English, Father Damaso is used.
Padre Damaso and, to a lesser extent, Padre Salvi, personify clerical abuses—the main cause, in the novel, of the population’s discontent. Rizal’s portraits, however, are not one-dimensional; rather, they reveal the all-too-human faults of each priest.
