The driver responsibility assessment is a fee you must pay to DMV over 3 years if you are convicted of certain traffic offenses in New York State or accumulate 6 or more points on your driving record within 18 months.

To make a payment on an NYC Traffic Violations Bureau (TVB) ticket: Go to Plead or Pay , select any ticket on your plan, and follow the payment instructions. You must make your minimum monthly payment each month.
If your traffic violations or convictions earn you 6 points in an period of 18 months, you must pay $100 per year for 3 years. If you accumulate any more points during that period of 3 years, you must pay an extra $75 per point for 3 years. Go to court. If the offense occurred in New York City, you can plead not guilty and schedule a hearing, OR plead guilty and pay your fines by: Using the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) web portal. Visiting the traffic court specified on your ticket. Calling the TVB customer service line at (718) 488-5710, ONLY if you were pulled over in NYC.
