Multiple myeloma accounts for 1% of all malignancies and 10–20% of all hematologic malignancies. Mostly the patients present with bone pain, pathological fractures, renal insufficiency or infections.
See a GP if you have any of the symptoms of multiple myeloma. While they're unlikely to be caused by cancer, it's best to be sure by getting a proper diagnosis. Bone pain. Multiple myeloma can cause pain in affected bones – usually the back, ribs or hips. The pain is frequently a persistent dull ache, which may be made worse by movement.
Symptoms of multiple myeloma may include: Fractures: Myeloma cells trigger the destruction of the surrounding bone. The weakened area of bone is more likely to break. This is called a pathological fracture. Bone pain, especially in the middle and/or lower back, rib cage or hips.
