Paint Township: A Colorful History. Located in northern Somerset County, Paint Township has the distinction of having the largest and most diversified population in the county. Initial settlers came from Maryland and the eastern Pennsylvania counties of Berks, Lancaster, York and Franklin.
Paint Township was established from the northern part of Shade Township in 1836. Jacob Berkebile opened the first store in 1848. [ 3 ] The township was originally bordered by Cambria County to the north, Bedford County to the east, Shade Township to the south, and Conemaugh Township to the west.
14 Σεπ 2015 · Paint, the seventeenth of the twenty-five townships of Somerset County, was named after Paint Creek and formed in 1837 from a part of Shade township. John Fyock is believed to have been the first settler, and to have cleared the first land within the territory which now constitutes Paint township.

PAINT township lies east of Beaver and Elk townships, and north of the Clarion River, which separates it from Clarion borough, Piney, Monroe and Clarion townships. It is drained by Paint Creek flowing west into Deer Creek and Toby creek, which flows southwest into the Clarion River.
Paint is a borough in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 907 at the 2020 census. [3] It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History of Bedford and Somerset Counties. PAINT TOWNSHIP. A close examination of the records shows that Shade township as first formed contained within its limits all of the present townships of Paint and Ogle, it thereby taking in a part of what had belonged to Conemaugh when first created.
