I got Paragard because of a bad reaction to the pill, but in the end, my gyn convinced me to at least try Mirena, and I’ve never looked back. No periods, no side effects, no surprise babies, and I was able to get pregnant my first cycle off of it.
I had a Paragard for 10 years in my 20s and early 30s and had no problems other than maybe slightly heavier menstrual cramps. Then I had a Mirena and loved having NO periods! This time around, though, I'm getting another Paragard because I want to avoid messing around with my hormones.
18 Αυγ 2022 · #1. It is VERY Effective. Like many forms of birth control, the copper IUD is considered to be VERY effective at preventing pregnancy. The success rate when using the copper IUD is around 99.4% (2) which puts it on par with most other forms of birth control.

Its main advantage over hormonal methods is that it contains no contraceptive drugs and permits natural ovulatory cycles. Pros of the copper IUD: The copper IUD permits normal, healthy ovulation, which is good because ovulation is how women make hormones.
