Pediatric heart failure represents an important cause of morbidity and mortality in childhood. Currently, there are well-established guidelines for the management of heart failure in the adult population, but an equivalent consensus in children is lacking.
1 Απρ 2022 · TOP 10 TAKE-HOME MESSAGES. Guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) for heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) now includes 4 medication classes that include sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i).
Given all of this complexity, management of HF in children can be challenging, due to limited guideline availability and considerable practice variation. We will briefly review the clinical presentation and pharmacologic management of acute decompensated and chronic pediatric HF.
