The Cave of the Apocalypse (Greek: Σπήλαιο Αποκάλυψης, pronounced [sp'ileo.apok'alipsis]) is located approximately halfway up the mountain on the Aegean island of Patmos, along the road between the villages of Chóra and Skala. This grotto marks the spot where St. John of Patmos received his visions that he recorded in the Book of Revelation. [1] .
The cave is located in the Monastery of Saint-John the Theologian on Pátmos Island in the Dodecanes. If you arrive with the ferry at the harbour at Skala just follow the road to the capital Chora, it is halfway.
Location: Chora. Located off the road from Skala to the Monastery of Saint John, the Cave of the Apocalypse, the place where Saint John the Theologian wrote the Book of the Revelation, is considered one of the most sacred sites of Christianity.
The cave of the Revelation is within walking distance of Skala (1.5km) and Hora (1.6km). Its entrance is on the main road between Hora and Skala as shown on this picture and map. There is a regular bus service that leaves you close to the entrance.
This sacred site inside the cave is a foundation of the Christian tradition, the rock is ragged with three small fissures which symbolize the Holy Trinity, and the voice of God was heard and dictated to Saint John the text of the Revelation.
