On October 24, 1648, the Peace of Westphalia or Treaty of Westphalia or Peace of Exhaustion was signed, marking the end of the Thirty Years’ War in the Holy Roman Empire. It also ended the Eighty Years’ War (1568 – 1648) between Spain and the Dutch Republic, with Spain formally acknowledging the independence of the Dutch Republic.
