Ideally you want to hold off on converting until you have achieved the Peace of Westphalia. Assuming you want to be the Emperor, the best thing to do is become Catholic emperor and pass erbkaisertum as soon as possible. Doing so forces religious peace and locks you in as the permanant emperor so you can then change religions as you please.

By attacking them, taking a lot of money, etc. you can either make them sign a separate peace with the league leaders or weaken one sides advance. In the end you should declare war on the league leader of the stronger league, which will probably make them try to end all other wars.

Peace of Westphalia. I tend to play most of my games in Europe, and I can’t recall having seen an all-AI League War end in religious peace before. Usually, the Catholics destroy the Protestants, or vice versa if outside powers intervene. This time, the war fired very early (1540s) and only PLC intervened (and got curbstomped).
