Is there any difference between regular electric guitar strings and pedal steel strings? Are they different lengths or have the wrap only over a certain length of string. Pedal Steel scale is slightly shorter than a regular guitar, so I thought this was a question worth asking.
Your guitar comes from the manufacturer balanced to specific strings and gauges. Changing gauges or brands may require some adjustments to the travel, action and balance of the various pulls. The chart below will serve as a guide for making up custom sets of strings for a pedal steel guitar.

28 Μαρ 2012 · It is my understanding that the D# and F#, commonly referred to as the "chromatic" strings were added to the other 8 strings for greater range as the tuning developed for pedal steel. I think the 8 string E9 tuning to that point was the same as the current one from low to high less those 2 strings.
With pedal steel strings consider their gauges, price, and if they're nickel or stainless steel. Find ones that add clarity and depth to your sound.
