Is there any difference between regular electric guitar strings and pedal steel strings? Are they different lengths or have the wrap only over a certain length of string. Pedal Steel scale is slightly shorter than a regular guitar, so I thought this was a question worth asking.

The chart below will serve as a guide for making up custom sets of strings for a pedal steel guitar. The gauges are based on the ability of a string to retain its memory accurately over time. You should select the string based on the highest pitch to which the string will be pulled when a pedal or knee lever is used.

The following chart shows recommended guages for each pitch over the entire range of the instrument. To use this chart, select the gauge from the highest pitch created on the open string when a pedal or knee lever is engaged.
