7 Μαρ 2024 · Clavicle Shaft Fractures are common pediatric fractures that most commonly occur due to a fall on an outstretched arm or direct trauma to lateral aspect of shoulder. Diagnosis can be made with plain radiographs.
Nonoperative treatment for clavicle fractures and acromioclavicular joint injuries is the mainstay of treatment in the pediatric population. The pediatric patient's significant remodeling potential allows for excellent results with nonoperative treatment.
A careful neurovascular exam must be completed given local anatomy of the mid-shaft of the clavicle. Tenderness to palpation and pain with cross arm testing may be indicative of AC joint injury. O’Briens test may be used to differentiate AC joint pathology from intra-articular SLAP tear pathology.
