A good way to practice for triangular pencils is the Papermate Handwriting mechanical pencil. It's got a 1.3mm lead so pretty break resistant. Now I'd suggest getting some June Gold lead in 2B for it (seems pretty easily available in the US) or if you can find it, some Kokuyo 1 3mm lead.
