In order to teach your pet a skill, you must first know it yourself. There are two ways for you to learn a pet ability: some abilities you can learn from a pet trainer in town, and some abilities you learn from taming creatures that already know the ability.

In comparison to the original Classic, there are six new pet abilities: Avoidance, Cobra Reflexes, Fire Breath, Gore, Poison Spit, and Warp. In original BC, Avoidance and Cobra Reflexes were added later (Patch 2.1) but will be available from the start in BC Classic.

Pet abilities. Most abilities are available to more than one family. A few abilities are tied to individual families - like Thunderstomp for Gorillas and Shell Shield for Turtles - but most aren't. You can search for pets with specific abilities on our search page, or check the lists in the abilities guide. Pets must be trained in their abilities.
25 Ιαν 2010 · There are two things you need to look at: Pet Family, and Pet Talent Tree. The Talent Tree dictates the standard "use" of that pet--PvE damage, PvE solo, or PvP--although these are mainly guidelines, and you can decide on a different role once you're familiar with the pet's abilities. Next, look at the pet's Family.
The following table cross-references spec and core family abilities for each family. Families each have one uniquely-named core ability, belonging to one of 7 ability types (left column). Each family also gains two abilities from the specialization to which it belongs (top row).
