Oxytetracycline/polymyxin B ophthalmic (brand name Terramycin®) is a combination antimicrobial medication used to treat certain types of bacteria (gram-positive and gram-negative). It is used to treat eye infections in cats and dogs.
These agents are used to dilate the pupil, prevent posterior synechia, reduce pain from ciliary muscle spasm, and help stabilize the blood–aqueous barrier. The treatment of choice is atropine sulfate 1% applied q24h to q8h depending on uveitis severity, then tapered to q48h after maximal pupil dilation. Ointment or solution may be used for dogs.
