Learn how and when state residents should apply for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) through the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation.
It is important to note for NYS institutions of higher education utilizing the ATB for eligibility for the NYS Tuition Assistance Program (TAP); the ATB must be administered in accordance with the requirements found in subsection 145-2.15 of the Commissioner's Regulations.
TAP is a grant – it doesn’t have to be paid back. New York State students attending college in New York State – including high school seniors who plan to attend college the following fall – should apply for TAP. TAP is available for eligible college students studying full- or part-time.
The New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) helps eligible New York residents pay tuition at approved schools in New York State. Because TAP is a grant, it does not have to be paid back. To be eligible for TAP benefits, you will have to meet the requirements set by the program.
To be eligible for TAP, students must be New York state residents, be attending college full-time, and meet certain New York State Taxable Income limits based on your dependency status. TAP awards range from $500 - $5,665 for new TAP grant recipients.
To apply, New York State residents attending NYS schools can link directly to the TAP application from the FAFSA submission page. Students may also access the application directly at www.hesc.ny.gov to apply or check their application status online.
