19 Σεπ 2024 · The room occupancy excise tax applies to room rentals of 90 days or less in hotels, motels, bed and breakfast establishments, and lodging houses. Beginning July 1, 2019, the room occupancy excise also applies to short-term rentals of property for 31 days or less.

This includes rooms in private homes if the room is reserved for accommodations. The tax is collected by the operator of the hotel (or other building).

12 Απρ 2019 · Under the Act, “occupancy” now includes the use or possession or the right to the use or possession of a room in a short-term rental. For short-term rentals, a period of occupancy is subject to the excise only if it is for not more than 31 consecutive calendar days.
So if the room costs $169 before tax at a rate of 0.055, your hotel tax will add 169 x 0.055 = $9.295, or an extra $9.30 per night. What About Other Fees? It's not unheard of to end up in a hotel that assesses both state and local occupancy taxes, as well as a state or local sales tax. But calculating all of that isn't as awful as it sounds.
