Permanent phrenic paralysis has very little place in the present-day treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. However, the fact must be borne in mind that a definite per centage of attempted temporary phrenic paralyses will result in some degree of permanent impairment of diaphragmatic function.

14 Ιουν 2017 · In this case series of eight cases, pediatric phrenic nerve palsy was associated with phrenic nerve infiltration after TB lymphadenitis. TB lymphadenitis was confirmed by culture studies, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis was the bacteria cultured in all of the eight cases.
In this descriptive retrospective cases series of eight cases phrenic nerve palsy in children caused by tuberculosis lymph gland infiltration of the phrenic nerve. The lymph gland enlargement was in all cases caused by culture confirmed Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
While pneumoperitoneum with or without phrenic nerve interruption has been used in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis for several years, most writers using this form of treatment have hesitated to present a statistical report of their results.
Our case, in which the fate of the phrenic nerve was confirmed, provides strong evidence that destruction of the phrenic nerve by the tuberculous inflammatory process is involved in the pathogenesis of diaphragmatic paralysis, which may influence the clinical management of these children.
