The NYC Health Department issues death certificates for all deaths that occur in New York City (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island). We do not issue certificates for Nassau, Suffolk or other counties in New York State.

The NYC Historical Vital Records Project. The New York City Municipal Archives is undertaking a mass digitization project to provide online access to 13.3 million historical birth, death, and marriage records.
16 Μαρ 2022 · The New York City Municipal Archives has been working to digitize the millions of birth, marriage, and death records it holds since 2013. With the project now 70% complete, 9,318,625 digitized records from the late 1800s to the early 1900s are now available online as of March 2022.
18 Μαρ 2022 · NYC Municipal Archives. The Department of Records and Information Services launched Historical Vital Records of NYC this week. The site features more than nine million birth, death and marriage records, all freely available to browse, search and download.
