With an area of 25,402 square km, Piedmont borders Switzerland and France on the north and west, the Italian regions of Lombardy on the east, Emilia-Romagna on the southeast, and Liguria on the south.
Piedmont means “on the foothills of the mountains”. The region lies in northwestern Italy, bordering France to the west. The cradle of Barolo , Barbaresco , Barbera and a few other world-famous wines, it is commonly considered one of Italy’s most important regions for viticulture.
