Up until recently, most of the operations shaping a guitar body or neck were done on a pin router. A pin router is a 2-D pattern follower.
A pin router is a special type of router, similar in size and shape to a typical handheld router but with the addition of two horizontal pins that stabilize the router body against the surface of the material being cut. This allows for greater control over the cutting bit and more accurate carving.
