I am considering buying a pair of Polk HTS-12 HT subwoofer to replace my two dead PSW650s but was surprised at the large number of reviews on Amazon about the sub amplifier failing right out of the box or with a few months of purchase.
I think the issue with the Polk subs is that the electrolytic capacitors are failing - and so it falls to Polk to produce an alternative design or upgrade the current design.

7 Δεκ 2022 · The Polk PSW111 subwoofer is just such a bass supporting solution, as it is a down-firing, 8-inch powered black-box subwoofer with a 300-watt internal amp. There’s no budget for room correction or fancy DSP – just a nice amp and well-braced Polk subwoofer driver.
Very easy to tune for both HT and music which can be an issue with most subs, especially ported ones like this one. Weakness: I have none to add, but I have heard the power plate can develop a hmmm over time.
The Polk Audio PSW10 is a compact subwoofer with an affordable price tag and excellent sound quality. In addition, it has up to 100 watts of dynamic power, which means it can produce deep bass for quite a lot of setup conditions that need some extra low-frequency energy.
