7 Απρ 2020 · In 1949, General Motors gave us the two-door hardtop. Six years later, it rolled out the four-door hardtop and the hardtop wagon. Indeed, GM was first with the two-door Chevrolet Nomad and Pontiac Safari, but the me-too brigade came out with four-door hardtop wagons with a bit more utility.
The previous Star Chief Custom two-door sport wagon remained in production; during the middle of the 1957 model year, a four-door Star Chief Custom station wagon was introduced, named the Safari Transcontinental.

A "Custom Transcontinental Safari" (aka "4-door Custom Safari" or just "Transcontinental") was a four-door wagon with high-end Star Chief components and trim. 270 BHP was standard engine output when equipped with single four barrel carburetor and Hydramatic transmission.

23 Σεπ 2020 · The new wagon was given GM Style Number 2762SDF and priced at $3636. It was an upmarket version of the Super Chief and Chieftain four-door wagons and also Pontiac’s priciest station wagon: $155 more than the Star Chief Custom Safari two-door wagon.
