Antipope Alexander V. Peter of Candia, also known as Peter Phillarges (Greek: Πέτρος Φιλάργης) (c. 1339 – 3 May 1410), named as Alexander V (Latin: Alexander PP. V; Italian: Alessandro V), was an antipope elected by the Council of Pisa during the Western Schism (1378–1417).
In 1179, Pope Alexander III convened the Third Lateran Council to address issues stemming from the ongoing schism. To prevent further divisions, the council established that the pope would be elected by a two-thirds majority of the cardinals.
Alexander (V) (born c. 1339, Candia, Crete—died May 3, 1410, Bologna, Papal States) was an antipope from 1409 to 1410. Alexander became a Franciscan theologian and then archbishop of Milan (1402). Pope Innocent VII appointed him cardinal (1405) and papal legate to Lombardy.

Instead of resolving the issue, the council elected yet another pope, Alexander V. His reign was short-lived, and upon his death in 1410, he was succeeded by John XXIII, further complicating the already muddled papal landscape.
Papal States transformed kinship ties and also had a great effect on papal historiography. With the election of Oddone Colonna as Pope Martin V (r. 1417–31), his relatives took on a new and more public importance. As the vicar of Olevano, Belvedere, and Passerano, Giordano Colonna now viewed his
