After Titus Ollius's death, Poppaea's mother married Publius Cornelius Lentulus Scipio the Elder, suffect consul, in 24 AD. Her siblings included stepbrother Publius Cornelius Lentulus Scipio the Younger, consul in 56 AD, and half-brother Publius Cornelius Scipio Asiaticus , suffect consul in 68 AD.
Nero's wife, Poppaea Sabina, died in 65 CE. This was supposedly in childbirth, although it was later rumored Nero kicked her to death. At the beginning of 66 CE, Nero married Statilia Messalina. While married to Otho, her second husband, she became mistress of Nero, whom she finally married in A.D. 62. She had great influence over Nero, inducing him to have his mother (Agrippina the Younger), his former wife (Octavia), and the philosopher Seneca killed.

[18] Agrippina was murdered in 59, and until her own death in 65, Poppaea remained the dominant force over Nero. Much like her mother, and those who she was supposedly responsible for eliminating, Poppaea met an early death.
The use of a mise-en-abyme technique brilliantly makes Poppaea’s dream narrative mirror the actual setting and lets the double-layered wedding-funeral imagery find its culmination in the ambiguous murder-suicide scene involving Poppaea’s former and present husbands, Crispinus and Nero.
