12 Ιουν 2023 · Defining the Vertical Intercept. The vertical intercept, often called the y-intercept, is critical in studying mathematical functions and their graphical representations. It is the point at which a line, curve, or surface intersects the vertical or y-axis on a Cartesian coordinate system.

The vertical intercept, along with the base $b$, determines the rate of growth or decay of the exponential function. A positive vertical intercept (where $a > 0$) indicates an exponential growth function, while a negative vertical intercept (where $a < 0$) indicates an exponential decay function.
