The post oak leaves measure 4” to 8” (10 – 20 cm) long, with four lobes on each side. The distinctive feature of this oak tree is its shape like a Maltese cross. The post oak tree has recognizable, deeply lobed margins.

Facts. Post oak gets its common name from the use of its tough wood in making posts, railroad ties, and lumber. Its leaves are variably shaped, from deeply to barely lobed; the lobes are longest toward the front of the leaf, giving it a top-heavy look.
