Clinical Case. A 4-year-old female weighing 19 kg presents with airway bleeding 8 hours postoperatively from tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, and bilateral myringotomy with tubes. Her surgery and anesthesia were uneventful. She has a history of multiple ear infections and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Pain. Moderate to severe pain is expected post-tonsillectomy and is the most common presentation to GPs. 1 Pain can be either unilateral or bilateral and, in 50% of the cases, is associated with otalgia. Otalgia often causes great concern for the patient and is frequently the reason for presentation to GPs.
