29 Αυγ 2014 · In 1904, on the eve of military defeat and the 1905 Revolution, Russian income inequality was middling by the standards of that era, and no more severe than inequality has become today in such countries as China, the United States, and Russia itself.
This chapterlinks the current state of poverty and inequality in Russia with its historic roots. Poverty has increased in the early years of transition in Russia. Economic growth since 2000 brought about a dramatic reduction of poverty,but it has neither eliminated poverty nor restored the pretransition situation.
In conjunction with a more realistic definition of the poverty line, these data provide more recent and comprehensive information on the patterns of poverty in Russia.
