29 Αυγ 2014 · Careful handling of an eclectic data set reveals how unequal were the incomes of different classes of Russians on the eve of Revolution. We estimate incomes by economic and social class in each of the fifty provinces of European Russia.
Just how unequal were the incomes of different classes of Russians on the eve of Revolution, relative to other countries, to Russia’s earlier history, and to Russia’s income distribution today? Careful weighing of an eclectic data set provides provisional answers. In 1904, on the eve of military defeat and the 1905 Revolution, Russian income
transfers in alleviating poverty, we present some conclusions about social protection policy and its effect on poverty in Russia. The Economic Backdrop Russia inherited a command economy whose weaknesses had become manifest in the 1980s (Easterly and Fischer 1995). The economic story since 1991 is by now familiar to most readers.
9 Νοε 2017 · Income inequality was high under Tsarist Russia, then dropped to very low levels during the Soviet period, and finally rose back to very high levels after the fall of the Soviet Union. Top income shares are now similar to (or higher than) the levels observed in the US.
This chapterlinks the current state of poverty and inequality in Russia with its historic roots. Poverty has increased in the early years of transition in Russia. Economic growth since 2000 brought about a dramatic reduction of poverty,but it has neither eliminated poverty nor restored the pretransition situation.
