The idea that practice theory is first an orientation towards understanding and explaining the social in terms of socio-material practices and their association helps distinguish a weak and strong programme in the wider ‘practice turn’.
How does practice looks like? To answer this question, we wanted to carry out an empirically analysis of management practice focusing on general conditions, process modeling and execution, the IT and the employees.
The main ideas of practice theory are analyzing the relationship between established structures of culture and how the people in reality act within that structure. In Sherry Ortner's description of Practice Theory she lays out three main aspects of this relationship: the Power Shift, Historic Turn, and the Re-Interpretation of Culture.
The range and scope of activities taken by various theorists to constitute “practices” can be made evident by a few characteristic examples from the practice theory literature.
