This document describes the basis and operation of the Blackmonk Engineering Storage Tank Calculator. The calculator determines the volume and alarm levels for a cylindrical vertical storage tank given the tank diameter, height and filling rate.
In the end of this guideline, example specification data sheets for the tank system are included which is created based on an industrial example. Calculation spreadsheet is included as well and to aid user more understand and to apply the theory for calculations.
These tables should simplify the calculations. We will refer to the PCA Rectangular Concrete Tanks design manual as PCA-R, and the circular tank design manual as PCA-C. An additional safety factor is used for the loads called the “Sanitation Coefficient”, we will denote it with SC for brevity.

Liquid Containing Rectangular Concrete Tank Design (ACI 318-14) Reinforced concrete tanks are used widely to collect and contain liquids from wastewater stations, process facilities, agricultural and environmental plants.
Materials, design, fabrication, and construction of the steel vessel of composite steel-concrete tanks are addressed by applicable sections of AWWA D100. Design and construction recommendations are presented for the types of elevated concrete and composite steel-concrete water storage tanks shown in Fig. 1.2a and 1.2b.
