Not what you pay attention to but the fact that you're concerned with the 'message' or the appearance or 'how it looks' of what you pay attention to - means yes, you are pretentious by definition. What you're doing is a really perverse use of meta-attention.
CMV: Despite the pretentiousness, Hipsters are the the most constructive, culturally-beneficial subculture in 40 years. First, I'm definitely not a hipster. My youthful subculture was New Wave in the 80s, which was basically a blend of Emo and Goth (they're both better blended, IMHO).
