10 Μαΐ 2023 · Across countries, the rate of preterm birth ranges from 4–16% of babies born in 2020. Preterm is defined as babies born alive before 37 weeks of pregnancy are completed. There are sub-categories of preterm birth, based on gestational age: moderate to late preterm (32 to 37 weeks).
7 Οκτ 2023 · We systematically searched population-based, nationally representative data on preterm birth from Jan 1, 2010, to Dec 31, 2020 and study data (26 March–14 April, 2021) for countries and areas with no national-level data.
Regional and global preterm birth rates are weighted averages of national preterm birth rates, using the UN World Population Prospects 2022 live birth estimates.
The absolute numbers of preterm births for each country were estimated by multiplying the estimated preterm birth rate by the live birth estimates from the UN World Population Prospects 2022 revision.
