The standard defines diameter and pitch combinations along with allowances, tolerances, and designations. It has the same 60° profile as the ISO metric screw thread, but the basic dimensions of each UTS thread were chosen as an inch fraction rather than a millimeter value.
Designations. The description always begins with a capital M, followed by the nominal thread diameter in millimeters. For example, M8 is a thread with a nominal diameter of 8 mm (0.315″). If no characters follow the M and diameter, it means that all the other parameters are according to the default as defined in ISO 965-1:
Download and print metric coarce threads clearance and tap drill chart. Metric Threads - Finer Threads. It is common to designate metric fine threads with the capital M plus an indication to their nominal outer diameter and their pitch: M size x pitch. Example: M 10 x 1.5. The table below indicates the typically used finer threads up to size M 100.
ISO 724 - ISO general-purpose metric screw threads - Basic dimensions (DIN 13), the standard in Europe, is recognizable by its cylindrical outer and inner diameter and its precise outer diameter in millimeters. Thread Dimensional Data. d = Basic Nominal Diameter.
