3 Ιαν 2024 · The stated purpose of the Act is to implement Canada’s international commitment to contribute to the fight against forced labour and child labour through the imposition of reporting obligations on entities producing goods in Canada or elsewhere or in importing goods produced outside Canada.
12 Ιαν 2024 · On December 20, 2023, Public Safety Canada released its long-awaited guidance on Canada’s modern slavery reporting legislation, the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act (“Act”). We had previously provided an overview of the Act here.
28 Μαρ 2024 · The Act contains separate reporting requirements for government institutions. Entities subject to the Act must prepare annual reports that are published prominently on their website and filed with the Minister no later than May 31 of each calendar year (commencing in 2024).
As the Act moves into its second year, with the promise of further legislation on the horizon, there are opportunities to improve transparency and performance in the mitigation of forced labour and child labour in supply chains, without increasing the legal risk to the reporting entity.
