The History of Fort Loramie. In 1769 Pierre-Louis de Lorimier (Peter Loramie), a French-Canadian fur trader, built a trading post just north of the present-day village of Fort Loramie where he traded in furs with the Wyandot and Shawnee Indian tribes.

Fort Loramie is a village in Shelby County, Ohio, United States, along Loramie Creek, a tributary of the Great Miami River in southwestern Ohio. It is 42 miles north-northwest of Dayton and 20 miles east of the Ohio/Indiana border.
The fort is central to a number of chapters in James A. Michener’s novel Centennial and the later miniseries. The fort is also featured in Taylor Sheridan’s fictional depiction of Oregon Trail migration, 1883, which served as a prequel to Yellowstone.
