12 Σεπ 2018 · Open source software, including GIS software, usually comes from the scientific and academic communities and requires a higher level of user proficiency than commercial software. If you and your organization have highly technical, self-sufficient people as GIS Analysts, you are well positioned to take advantage of open source software.
For example, a data analyst may need to choose between a proprietary visualization tool, such as Tableau, and the open source package, ggplot2 in R. Or a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) professional may need to choose between ArcGIS or its OSS equivalent, QGIS, a geographic information system application.
