Paramecia are examples of protists that move with cilia. Cilia are short, thread-like protrusions that extend from the body and move in a sweeping motion. This motion allows the organism to move and also pulls food (bacteria, algae. ect.) toward the paramecium's mouth.
The ciliates are a group of alveolates characterized by the presence of hair-like organelles called cilia, which are identical in structure to eukaryotic flagella, but are in general shorter and present in much larger numbers, with a different undulating pattern than flagella.
They are characterized by the possession of cilia (Latin cilium, eyelash) -- tiny hairs covering all or part of their bodies, which are used for locomotion and for creating currents which bring food particles to their mouths (see diagram).

8 Νοε 2023 · Cilia are most prominent in protozoans of the phylum Ciliophora which are characterized by the presence of cilia. Ciliated cells are found in different tissues in complex animals like vertebrates, where they have distinct functions. Cilia are different from flagella which are mostly longer and fewer in number on the cell. Cilia also differ from ...
1 Μαρ 2021 · Examples of Animal-like Protists. There are four main types of animal-like protists; these are the amoeba, the flagellates, the ciliates, and the sporozoans. Amoeboid Protozoans. Amoeba are characterized by the presence of pseudopodia, or ‘false feet,’ which they use to catch bacteria and smaller protists.
