Yes, most of the zips have several BIOS versions from different regions, you put everything in the pcsx2 folder and leave it in automatic, so the emulator will decide which BIOS to use depending on the region of the game you want to play.
As an example Play! doesn't need an external PS2 BIOS to work. PCSX2 needs a PCSX BIOS folder. The Core Info section says to visit this link for more information.
28 Ιουν 2012 · To get the PlayStation 2 BIOS, you must dump it from your own PS2. PCSX2 team provide a tool that help you do it. To run that tool, you need a modded console, either hard-modded using modchip or soft-modded using Swap Magic.

Dumping your PS2 BIOS is conceptually a two-step process: Modify the operation of your PS2 so that it can run any program. Then you can run a "BIOS dumper" utility program on your PS2 that reads its BIOS and writes it to a USB drive.
