Measurement of free prostate-specific antigen or its use in the prostate health index (PHI) may be indicated when total PSA levels fall within the defined range, also known as the “grey area,” of 4.0-10.0 ng/mL. Lower level limits used in some facilities may be as low as 2.0 ng/mL.
